You will not be surprised to learn that it is not very much. Currently retired people or old age pensioners as they are sometimes called receive up to a maximum of £97.65 per week if they are single and up to a maximum of 156.15 per week for a married couple. That equates to £5,077.80 pa if you are single and £8,119.800 pa if you are a married couple.
Hopefully you will not have a mortgage to pay but there will be plenty of other expenses. Also having worked hard all your life is it not time to spend some money on enjoying the longest holiday of your life.
So not only does the state pension amount to very little both the Labour and Conservative parties intend to make you wait longer for it.
